With Keenan Allen headed to the IR, ending what was looking like a stellar season for the young WR, the Chargers have made a pair of moves.

Keenan Allen was on pace for his best season as a pro, and would have finished as one of the top WR's in the NFL this season. With Allen headed to the IR, the Chargers have made a pair of moves.

Dreamius was with the team this offseason and placing him on the practice squad adds a little insurance with Branden Oliver suffering from turf toe. Meanwhile Javontee Herndon FINALLY gets promoted to the active roster, but sadly it is not to replace Jacoby Jones. Herndon should see some snaps on offense, as at this point he is a better receiving option than Jones. Herndon could also start stealing some return snaps if Jones continues to be less effective than kneeling. Fingers crossed on that one.

Keenan Allen is done for the season after lacerating his kidney making a touchdown catch against the Baltimore Ravens. The San Diego Chargers' season of terror continues.

Welp, that was quick.

Keenan Allen was the only player on the San Diego Chargers outside of Philip Rivers who was having a "good" year offensively, so now the 2-6 Bolts are significantly worse than what their record says they are. That's less than fun.

Perhaps Tom Telesco will use the remaining hours before the NFL Trade Deadline to trade away any and all players that won't be back next season (Eric Weddle, Antonio Gates, Malcom Floyd)? It's only sad until you realize they'd probably be going to good teams and having more fun.

With Allen out, Stevie Johnson will likely take his spot on the outside and Dontrelle Inman will likely become the slot receiver (or split time with Ladarius Green there). Either way, Philip Rivers will have a difficult time putting up the same great stats he's been putting up.

After suffering a lacerated kidney against the Baltimore Ravens, the remainder of the 2015 season is in jeopardy for San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen.

Here's some bad news.

First of all, in the grand scheme of things, this is kind of okay. I even said in my original post about this kidney injury that the team might just hold him out for the rest of the season since these games are kind of meaningless anyway (or, at least, I said the team could evaluate their stance on that after the game against the Chicago Bears on Monday).

Second, kidney procedures are not exactly the type of thing you just get up and play football after. These are vital organs that now have stitches in them. Keenan Allen will likely be on bed rest for a few weeks and should probably take it easy for a few weeks after that. Why not just give him the extra time?

Third, what the hell is wrong with the San Diego Chargers? First, they fly cross-country with a very obviously concussed Kris Dielman, he has a seizure on the plane, and they end his career. Then, they fly back from Denver with a very obviously concussed Jahleel Addae, and he ends up missing more than a month's worth of games. Now, they fly cross-country with a very injured Keenan Allen and he ends up in the hospital with a lacerated kidney, having a procedure done that will likely cost him the entire second half of the season.

Way to take care of your guys and show that their health is your number one priority, Chargers. Good luck signing a free agent ever again.

That is worrisome.

I'm no doctor but a "kidney injury" sounds pretty freaking serious. My guess is that he'll be out against the Chicago Bears a week from today, with the bye week to rest, and possibly for the rest of the season if the team's playoff chances become hopeless. No need to risk serious injury to an organ other than the brain just for the sake of trying to win football games when winning football games does nothing but hurt your draft position.

Allen has been the San Diego Chargers' best WR this year, and will be counted on to have an even bigger role with Malcom Floyd's retirement and Antonio Gates' possible retirement in the upcoming offseason. They need him healthy for the long term.
