Let's take a look at the San Diego Chargers' final 53 man roster heading into week 1 of the 2015 NFL regular season.

Here's a look at what the San Diego Chargers' 53 man roster looks like today, and know that it may not be exactly how it looks in eight days when they take on the Detroit Lions.

Quarterback

Philip Rivers
Kellen Clemens

No surprises here...

Running Back

Melvin Gordon
Danny Woodhead
Branden Oliver
Donald Brown

No surprises here either...

Tight End

Ladarius Green
David Johnson
Kyle Miller

I love me some Kyle Miller, and am absolutely pumped to see he got a spot over John Phillips. Antonio Gates is not a part of the 53 man roster until Week 5, when his suspension is over, so it will be interesting to see how this group shifts at that point.

Wide Receiver

Malcom Floyd
Keenan Allen
Stevie Johnson
Dontrelle Inman
Jacoby Jones
Tyrell Williams

Six WRs is not something the Chargers usually need because Gates is basically another WR. I wonder if this group loses someone (Williams to the practice squad?) when Gates comes back.

Tackle

King Dunlap
Joe Barksdale
Chris Hairston
Tyreek Burwell

Who the heck is Tyreek Burwell?

Guard

D.J. Fluker
Orlando Franklin
Johnnie Troutman

This is an odd bunch. You have two former tackles and one guy who won't be healthy enough to play for a few weeks.

Center

Chris Watt
Trevor Robinson

All told, nine offensive linemen isn't crazy, but it's says something that Tyreek Burwell made the team. They didn't need to keep eight guys.

Nose Tackle

Ryan Carrethers
Sean Lissemore

Defensive End

Corey Liuget
Ricardo Mathews
Kendall Reyes
Mitch Unrein
Darius Philon

Nothing crazy here.

Outside Linebacker

Jerry Attaochu
Melvin Ingram
Kyle Emanuel
Cordarro Law
Tourek Williams

Inside Linebacker

Donald Butler
Manti Te'o
Kavell Conner
Denzel Perryman
Nick Dzubnar

I like Dzubnar and all, but 10 linebackers seems like a ton when you already have 7 defensive linemen, but okay.

Cornerback

Brandon Flowers
Jason Verrett
Craig Mager
Patrick Robinson
Steve Williams

I like this group a bunch.

Safety

Eric Weddle
Jahleel Addae
Darrell Stuckey
Jimmy Wilson

Special Teams

Josh Lambo
Mike Scifres
Mike Windt

I actually just double-checked to make sure that was 53 because it seems like the Chargers got to keep just about everyone that would want to and have a bunch of depth everywhere. An excellent job of building a roster by Tom Telesco and Mike McCoy.

The Chargers have announced their roster moves to take them down to the 53 player limit prior to the deadline this afternoon.

The San Diego Chargers have announced who was released/moved today in order to get down to the league maximum of 53 players.

Reserve/Suspended list

After making these cuts, this leaves four undrafted free agent rookies still on the roster: K Josh Lambo, WR Tyrell Williams, LB Nick Dzubnar and OT Tyreek Burwell. Also, both Tourek Williams and Johnnie Troutman remain on the roster and were not moved to the injured reserve list, meaning the team likely expects them to return to the roster at some time fairly early in the season.

The team can begin the process of signing their practice squad players after 1 PM EST on Sunday, Sept. 6th.

Chargers waive third year QB Brad Sorensen; only two left on the roster.

It appears the Chargers will have the same QB group as last year as QB Brad Sorensen has been waived.

Brad Sorensen was a seventh round pick for the Chargers in 2013. After being part of the roster cuts for the 2014 season, he spent part of 2014 with Chargers former offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt in Tennessee. Released from the Titans practice squad in December of 2014, he returned to San Diego for the remainder of the season.

Some fans favored him making the roster over Kellen Clemens, but Clemens will again be the backup QB to Philip Rivers for the 2015 season. Brad Sorensen could still be placed on the practice squad should the team choose to do so. And he is definitely a candidate.

Safety Adrian Phillips became the latest Charger to be released. Spent time on the practice squad in his first season in the league a year ago. Figures to have a shot in landing there again.

Phillips had a solid training camp and preseason for San Diego, though, so there's no guarantee he will make it. The secondary on this team is one of the deepest units they have had in years and Phillips was always an outsider when it came to making the 53-man roster. Hopefully he can make it to the practice squad because he has flashed some NFL caliber skills and athleticism. If he doesn't this is still the most talent Tom Telesco has had to cut in his time here

These things sometimes happen. When a team knows that they're going a cut a player, they'll often let other GMs know that the player is available in hopes of picking up a conditional 7th round pick (although there's no word on what Minnesota is sending back).

This will probably amount to nothing more than if Jeremiah Sirles were released and then signed by the Vikings, but this way Minnesota can make sure nobody else gets him before they do. And if he happens to get called into action during the regular season, they'll gladly part ways with a low-round draft pick, which makes the San Diego Chargers all the richer come draft day.

Everyone wins!

He's going to need a new jersey number...

Tyrell Williams has been a favorite of San Diego Chargers fans this year, as he has a unique package of size, speed, and precise-route running. Great to see he made the cut.

Herndon probably wasn't going to make the team, but he put up a pretty good fight in camp.

If we think the Chargers are going to keep six WRs, here's what that group now looks like:

Malcom Floyd

Keenan Allen

Stevie Johnson

Dontrelle Inman

Jacoby Jones

Tyrell Williams

Inman is maybe at risk to be cut, and Jones hasn't had a great camp (after signing as a free agent in the offseason), but it's less likely to happen than many other cuts on the roster.

That's 7 announced cuts now, which leaves 15 that will come out in the next 90 minutes.

It appears that Josh Lambo has won the job of starting kicker for the San Diego Chargers over incumbent Nick Novak.

Novak has a great history of accuracy since joining the Chargers, but doesn't have the strongest leg in the league....or even on the team.

While Lambo seemed to struggle with accuracy early on in Training Camp, he came through in preseason action and offered the extra benefit of being able to kick it in from 50+ while also booting kickoffs into the opposing end zone with ease.

A former first round pick for FC Dallas of the MLS, Lambo is a former goalkeeper that turned himself into a kicker, joining the Texas A&M squad at 21 years old. He was signed by the Chargers as an undrafted free agent, and now has an awful lot to live up to as a starting rookie kicker in the NFL.

No, I don't know who Brian Parker is either. Apparently he's a Tight End that used to be on the San Diego Chargers roster, and now he's not.

Either way, he helps the team get a little closer to 53. I believe that's now five cuts, getting them down to 70. That leaves 17 more cuts to come in the next two hours.
