The Chargers added depth to their roster today by signing two Wide Receivers and a Cornerback that Tom Telesco is very familiar with.

Some San Diego Chargers news today! Hooray!

Three players? Well, that's exciting! Let's find out who they are.

Deon Butler, WR - Played the first four years of his NFL career with the Seattle Seahawks. He went to Penn State and is quite small at 5'10", 170lbs. Has seen his stats go down every years since catching 36 passes for 385 yards and 4 TDs in 2010.

Dan DePalma, WR - Former New York Giant. Undrafted. Has been a practice squad player for the Jets and Giants in two years since his days with the West Chester University Golden Rams. He's very white and looks hard-nosed, so he's bound to be a favorite of Chargers fans in August.

Cornelius Brown, CB - According to what I've been able to dig up, Cornelius Brown's nickname was/is "Cornbread". At one point, he was on twitter as @BreadsWORLD. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that actually granted Cornbread ownership of the world or of fate itself. So, after going undrafted out of UTEP in 2010, , Brown was signed by the Indianapolis Colts as a 4th (or 5th) Cornerback and Kick Returner.

That last signing is definitely a Telesco signing. The first two are just good training camp/preseason depth.

Needing depth along the defensive line, Chargers General Manager signed former Packers and former Titans Defensive End Jarius Wynn.

The San Diego Chargers, in desperate need of defensive linemen, signed Defensive End Jarius Wynn to a one-year contract earlier today. Wynn spent 2012 as a backup for the Tennessee Titans after spending three seasons with the Green Bay Packers as a backup.

Wynn isn't a good player, but he has experience playing the 3-4 DE position, he's young (he'll turn 27 during training camp) and he's likely inexpensive. For a defensive line that has its starters in place and is looking for some capable bodies to back them up, this is a solid move.

Wynn's official measurements seem to change depending on which site you're looking him up on. Some list him at 6'3" while others list him at 6'5". Some have him as light as 273lbs, while others have him as heavy as 285lbs. Those things may not seem important but the heavier and taller he is the better it is for the Chargers.

Philip Rivers accounts for more than $17 million in 2013 cap space | USA TODAY Sports

With the NFL Draft a few weeks away and the big "free agency" period over, how much money does Tom Telesco have left to spend with in 2013?

To answer a question that I've been getting repeatedly, let's all go look at this article on NFL.com that outlines how much cap space each NFL team has left. If you're simply interest in the San Diego Chargers, here are their figures:

50 players currently under contract

$123,517,848 in team cap space

$116,480,718 in cap space currently used

$7,037,130 in cap space remaining

7 million may not seem like a lot, especially when you consider that 2 of that will probably get tied up in rookie contracts and the team needs to leave a few million available during the season in case of emergency. That being said, 7 million is about average for teams that don't have a ridiculous amount of cap space (Eagles, Buccaneers, Jaguars, Browns, Bengals).

It's not enough money to sign any big name free agents, but there are no big name free agents left. It puts Tom Telesco in a spot where he can save the money for the season or sign a good piece if one falls in his lap for the right place. Not a terrible place to be.

With the bulk of the top NFL Free Agents signed, it's time to review just what the Chargers have been up to.

There have been many complaints from Chargers fans about the team's apparent lack of activity in Free Agency this year. Some have even proclaimed the team as having a negative record to end the season. Yeah, I chuckled too.

Remember last year when the Chargers were signing practically every available Free Agent on the market? Remember how well that worked for the team?

Okay, I really didn't mean for this to turn into a condescending post. Let's break down what's happened with the Chargers during Free Agency, shall we?

When Derek Cox was signed, many fans were encouraged. Then the Danny Woodhead signing came out and that got some of the fanbase genuinely excited. The other three signings go to fill in obvious needs that should also be addressed in the draft.

Antoine Cason leaving for Arizona hurts a bit less with the signing of Cox.

Antonio Garay's return to the Jets won't hurt the Chargers too much as Garay barely saw the field last season.

Veteran running back Ronnie Brown has been re-signed by the Chargers and would seem to fill the remaining hole at that position.

After signing Danny Woodhead this morning, the San Diego Chargers remained focused on the running back position as they agreed to terms on a one-year deal with veteran Ronnie Brown. A nine-year pro, Brown spent 2012 as the primary third down back for the Chargers offense. With Woodhead on board, it seems unlikely that Brown will remain the team's primary anything.

Brown's age, position on the depth chart and the fact that he signed on for only one season all point to this as a security signing against training camp injuries. Brown was less than effective when facing base defenses in 2012 and the former Patriot, Woodhead, is the superior receiver out of the backfield. He is, however, quality veteran depth at a position that takes a physical toll on those who play it.

Brown is the fourth Charger to be re-signed by the Chargers this week, but is the first that isn't primarily (or entirely) a special teams performer. The other three were of course kicker Nick Novak, long-snapper Mike Windt and return specialist Richard Goodman.

I love this signing. Danny Woodhead was similar to Darren Sproles in that the New England Patriots could plug him anywhere into the offense and he would find ways to be effective. Danny was already a fan-favorite with New Englanders, and he's sure to get big reactions from the crowd down at Qualcomm Stadium as well.

Kid Dynamite makes his first big free agent signing as GM of the San Diego Chargers inking CB Derek Cox to a four year deal.

Earlier today we learned that Jerraud Powers, formerly of the Indianapolis Colts, had decided to sign with the Arizona Cardinals despite having a visit to San Diego scheduled for tomorrow. It would seem Tom Telesco wasn't interested in seeing that happen with 26-year-old Jacksonvile Jaguars free agent cornerback Derek Cox.

The San Diego Chargers signed the corner to a four-year deal worth $20 million. The signing bonus is for $5.2 million and there are $5.05 million dollars additionally guaranteed. It had been reported by numerous outlets that Cox and Powers were among those being targeted by the Chargers and it's impossible to ignore the fact that they lost out on Powers when examining how a three-year offer became a four-year offer.

Cox has suffered hamstring issues during his career, but when healthy is a very talented player that is experienced, has good size for the position and is strong as a zone defender.

It's also worth noting that this deal almost certainly would have been enough to re-sign Antoine Cason had it been offered to him, so it will be worth watching and comparing the two players over the life of this deal.

The San Diego Chargers finally add a "big fish", signing Derek Cox from the Jacksonville Jaguars to be the team's new #1 Cornerback.

The San Diego Chargers will have to find ways to replace starting Cornerbacks Quentin Jammer and Antoine Cason this offseason, and their biggest signing of the free agent period thus far will fill at least one of those two roles. The team has signed former Jacksonville Jaguars CB Derek Cox.

At 6'1", Cox is a big, physical CB that can play man coverage with some of the best at his position. He has intercepted 12 passes in the last four seasons, including four last year in 12 games. He will most likely work as the team's #1 CB, with Shareece Wright and Marcus Gilchrist battling for the #2 CB spot.

Tom Telesco, who worked in the same division as the Jaguars during the last four seasons, has seen Derek Cox frequently and knows him well.
