The San Diego Chargers have posted the full video of new Head Coach Mike McCoy's introductory press conference on their website. You can view it here.

If you saw it live, you'll probably want to watch it again. It was that good.

If you didn't see it live, make sure you're sitting down because you're about to be blown away by a coach that demands the attention of everyone in the room.

Here are some stats that we maybe haven't yet mentioned:

McCoy has been the Offensive Coordinator for the Denver Broncos for four seasons. Before that, he went to the Super Bowl as the Quarterbacks Coach for John Fox and the Carolina Panthers.

As a player, he was a Quarterback for the Long Beach State 49ers and Utah Utes before a short career in the CFL with the Amsterdam Admirals and Calgary Stampeders.

When we start looking for McCoy to hire an Offensive Coordinator, we'll probably end up looking at guys that focus on the QB and the passing game instead of the former Offensive Linemen (Mike Tice comes to mind) that would rather run the ball on each down.

San Diego Chargers Head Coach Mike McCoy will hire and Offensive Coordinator to run the offense and call the plays.

During his introductory press conference, which was impressive (to say the least), new San Diego Chargers Head Coach stressed that he would be hiring an Offensive Coordinator to run the offense and call the plays. This is in line with the hopes of many Chargers fans, who were hoping for a Head Coach that could focus on the fundamentals of the entire team instead of being tied to one side of the team.

I'll do some research and put up a post tomorrow of potential available Offensive Coordinator candidates that McCoy will be looking at, but he'll definitely be searching for someone that has a similar philosophy of tailoring the offense to the strength of the personnel instead of the other way around.

McCoy and General Manager Tom Telesco will have a mighty task in front of them, fixing Philip Rivers while trying to quickly rebuild the offensive line and being stuck with the contracts A.J. Smith gave to Reese Meachem and Eddie Royal.

The San Diego Chargers will be introducing their new Head Coach, Mike McCoy, to the press and the fans at 2pm (Pacific) today. The press conference will be live streamed on there site here.

Assuming this goes as GM Tom Telesco's press conference went, McCoy will thank the Spanos family, discuss his first (and only) interview with the Chargers and thank those that gave him a chance with the Denver Broncos before taking questions from the San Diego sports media.

One of the most common questions I've gotten since the announcement of McCoy as the team's new Head Coach is whether or not he will call the offensive plays himself or hire an Offensive Coorinator to do that. This will undoubtedly be asked, and hopefully will be answered, during this press conference.

There will also probably be a question or two regarding Peyton Manning and his involvement in the play-calling and offensive gameplan for the Broncos in 2012.

You can use the comments below as an "Open Thread" for the press conference.

Reports are flying in today that Mike McCoy is set to become the next Head Coach of the San Diego Chargers, replacing Norv Turner.

After hearing Darren Smith talk yesterday about Adam Schefter being the guy that always breaks news dealing with the Broncos and Redskins, I thought "He'll probably be the one to break the Mike McCoy story if the San Diego Chargers end up hiring him." Welp.

Mike McCoy informed the Broncos this morning that he is accepting the San Diego Chargers head coaching job.

There are other reports out there that the Chargers have also informed their other candidates that they're hiring McCoy, so this is a pretty much a done deal at this point.

So, what do we know about Mike McCoy? We know that he's the same age (40) as Chargers General Manager Tom Telesco. We know that he's had 3 Quarterbacks and 3 Head Coaches in the last 4 seasons. Most importantly, we know that he was able to win games with a shape-shifting offense that changed for Kyle Orton, Tim Tebow and Peyton Manning.

We also know that, since McCoy is a young offensive coach, the chances of him keeping John Pagano and the rest of the defensive staff in place is high.

This is the hire that we wanted, remember? Mike McCoy was #2 on Jeff's list behind David Shaw, who decided early on that he wasn't leaving Stanford. Here's what Jeff had to say about him:

In terms of coaching adversity, look at what McCoy has done in Denver. In 2009 and 2010, he worked with Josh McDaniels to make Kyle Orton look halfway decent running a one-back spread passing game. In 2011, he junked that and went to a run-heavy offense with lots of play-action, bootleg, waggle, and read-option for Tim Tebow. Now in 2012, he's basically had to reinstall the one-back spread that Peyton Manning prefers to run. The thing I like best about McCoy is his willingness to build the offense around what his players do best, regardless of their limitations. He's helped get the most of out some very limited players (Orton, Tebow), and at the very least has helped Manning hit the ground running in Denver.

This is the young, offensive coach that we at BFTB were hoping the Chargers would get. Someone that can "fix" Philip Rivers and the offensive line. Someone that can build a championship organization along with the young General Manager. Now all they have to do is actually do it.
