Five strange ones, courtesy of the 2-4 San Diego (Underachieving Once Again) Chargers: 1. San Diego is 2-0 at home, 0-4 on the road ... winning by an average of 28, losing by an average of 6.3. 2. The Chargers lost twice in Missouri in the span of 34 days. 3. Philip Rivers is on pace to break Dan Marino's single-season passing-yardage record by 271 yards, whatever good that does. 4. The Chargers have outgained the opposition by 1,065 yards. 5. In six games, they've lost nine fumbles, had three punts blocked and had the opposition score touchdowns on returns of punts, kicks, interceptions and blocked punts.

On last day he could have been cut to become a free agent, Chargers LB Shawne Merriman was not. He now will have to pass through waivers.

@AdamSchefter This helps to clear up some confusion on whether or not Merriman would have to pass through waivers when the team releases him. It would now appear he will be placed on the waiver wire when released.

If the claim is true, it's hard to say if it's a shot to AJ Smith (or his ego), which has been under fire along with the Coaching staff, or to the team. His excellent success in New York has definitely proved doubters wrong, specifically the biggest one in Smith who released him, making me think the comment is more for him. Note that Kassim Osgood was actually worried for his team's lack of consistency. At least, on the special teams side. Cromartie was a turd in a salad during his time here, and seems to struggle to put together complete sentences, so it may be a while before he says anything about his former team, since the secondary seems to be doing fine without him. For now, it seems New York's trash-talking ways may have planted a seed in a humble player.

Advanced NFL stats thinks our ST has just been fllukey, and there's nothing to worry about. Some pretty interesting numbers. CHFF had an article on us this week too, as did ESPN, if you pay for such things.
