5 Kansas City Chiefs Questions with Arrowhead Pride

Joel Thorman from Arrowhead Pride was nice enough to answer a few questions about the Chiefs for me heading into Sunday's game against the Chargers.

Benny Sieu-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

What's something about the Chiefs offense that Chargers fans wouldn't know?

They're the No. 1 offense in the NFL right now. Yardage-wise, at least. That's not totally a clear picture of the Chiefs because they were blown out in the first two games. Jamaal Charles is the NFL's leading rusher but he had 233 rushing yards last week. So the Chiefs gain a lot of yards but I don't think they're the best offense in the NFL.

What's something about the Chiefs defense that Chargers fans wouldn't know?

The defense is better than it looks. A lot better. Entering last week, KC's defense was the worst in the NFL, tied with the Saints. They started out last year with a couple horrible games as well, but finished the season as the league's 12th-ranked defense. So they sucked early on this year, played significantly better against the Saints and I expect them to settle back down into the top 10ish range.

How have the big name injury returns (Jamaal Charles, Eric Berry, Tony Moeaki) looked so far this season

They've all looked good. Charles had 39 touches last week and felt fine. That's pretty much the biggest indication that he's fine and will be fine, but he still occasionally gets a little sore in practice. Nothing too serious though. Berry was the first one of this group to look like he was back so I'm not worried about him. Moeaki was a little slower than the other guys because he has a history of injury. He's seen his role get a little smaller since Kevin Boss was signed (and Kevin Boss is out this week, by the way).

Where are the Chiefs better than the Chargers -- run offense, pass offense, run defense, pass defense?

They're better in the rushing offense with Charles, Peyton Hillis, etc. I can't say I'm confident in saying they're definitely better anywhere else. Philip Rivers and the Chargers passing offense is better. The Chiefs run defense got a lot better last year so that's a candidate. The pass defense is still finding its way a little bit with a couple of new players and injuries. Run offense is the only area I can say for sure.

What's your prediction for Sunday's game?

The Chiefs will defend Arrowhead for the third straight season and beat the Chargers, 24-21. A couple years ago it was the rain game on Monday night to open the season. Last year it was The Phumble. Something weird will happen this year and it will help the Chiefs.
