The Chargers’ Week 18 game against the Kansas City Chiefs has gotten off to a rough start with their starting tight end, Gerald Everett, leaving the game with an injury on the first offensive drive.

The Bolts’ tight end has been a positive addition since his arrival in 2022 having spent his previous five seasons at the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks. Everett had 50 catches for 407 yards and three touchdowns heading into the last week of the season, this would be his lowest output since 2019 should he not return to the field.

If he is forced to miss the remainder of this game, and the last of the season, Stone Smartt would be in line for more work with Nick Vannett stepping up to the second tight end spot in 12 and 13 personnel groupings. Stone Smartt has earned his stripes this season by being making the most of his snaps and consistently available so it will be interesting to see him at the forefront of the offense for what is left of this game.

Update: Gerald Everett has been ruled out for the rest of this Week 18 game.
