It’s amazing what has happened to the mindsets of Chargers fans following the firings of both Brandon Staley and Tom Telesco.
In the immediate SB Nation Reacts poll following the news, confidence in the Chargers sprang up to a season high with 51 percent of those surveyed saying they were confident in the direction of the franchise. In that Week 16 game against the Bills, the Chargers put up a good fight and almost nearly upset Buffalo.
Usually after a loss, confidence has tended to shrink. Not this week, however. After not notably better the entire team seemed to look during their narrow 24-22 loss, confidence from the fan base continued to soar. In this week’s pole, 71 percent of those surveyed believe the team is still headed in the right direction. That’s another season-high mark, beating the season high surveyors set just a week ago.
Will confidence continue to rise if the Chargers lose against the Broncos? Do they need to show a competitive effort but ultimately lose en route to solidifying the highest draft pick? My money is on the latter.
