Good Morning, Bolts From the Blue

After a third straight loss the Los Angeles Chargers are reeling with their season all but mathematically over sitting at 4-7, the joint second worst record in the AFC. Their Week 12 loss to the Baltimore Ravens may have shown promise but that is not what Brandon Staley needs right now, he needed a statement win to save their season and instead found yet another way to lose a close game. It is now very safe to say that the Chargers’ 2023 season is over and so is the Brandon Staley era. The glimpses we have seen over the past three seasons have been few and far between, there has not been a single consistent element and if anything every single unit has regressed under this regime.

However, the team they are facing in Week 13 are the only team in the entire conference with a record worse than them, the New England Patriots are one of the worst teams in football and find themselves at 2-9 and well in the hunt for a top draft pick come spring. Mac Jones’ demise has been dramatic following a mildly impressive rookie year, over the last two years the former first round pick has almost as many interceptions as touchdowns and has been benched four times this season. Having a quarterback you can’t trust could still be salvageable for a head coach as good as Bill Belichick, however this roster is almost completely devoid of young talent and it shows up every week.

Week 13 opening odds

The DraftKings Sportsbook oddsmakers have opened their books with the Bolts as 5.5-point favorites despite this game being in Foxsborough. This is a huge road margin for a team with only four wins and maybe it is a sign that the differences in these rosters are much greater than two wins. The total has been set at 41 points which leads the punters to believe that Brandon Staley’s defense could hold the Patriots under 10 points for the third week in a row.

What do you think, Bolts From the Blue? What bets would you place on this game?
