Through the first two weeks of the season, Derwin James was the highest-graded safety in the NFL by Pro Football Focus. However, after grading out with a near-elite 89.9 in that span, James’ overall grade against the Chiefs plummeted to a 49.5, well below 60.0 which is considered to be an “average” mark.

However, I do not understand how his performance was viewed so poorly. He missed one tackle (totaled four) and allowed one reception for five yards on three targets in his direction. That sounds like a pretty solid game to me. I’d have to go back and see if that one missed tackle led to a big play or a touchdown, but my money says it probably didn’t.

At any rate, James has yet to record an interception through three games and I can’t help but feel that could come to an end this week against the Raiders who are throwing all over the place this season. If there was a game for James to further remind the NFL that’s he’s official back, this is a good one to do it in.

More than likely, he’ll see plenty of snaps lined up against Darren Waller, Las Vegas’ incredibly-athletic tight end. Carr loves to pelt Waller with targets and if this is any normal game for the Raiders, James will have plenty of chances to take the ball away in that matchup.

For today’s discussion, let me know which Chargers player(s) you believe are in line for a big game on Monday Night Football. Whether it’s because you’re just expecting it or that player NEEDS to have one in order for the team to win, be sure to let us know in the comments below.
