Chargers downgrade Justin Jones, elevate 2 prior to Sunday

NFL: Los Angeles Chargers-Training Camp Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Ahead of Sunday’s matchup with the Chiefs, the Chargers announced a handful of roster transactions.

First, the team is officially downgrading Justin Jones to OUT. He’s currently dealing with a calf injury that will keep him out for a second-straight game.

In a corresponding move, the Chargers will be elevating both defensive lineman Joe Gaziano and edge rusher Emeke Egbule to the active roster. Both moves help reinforce position groups that have been affected by injuries. Gaziano will replace Jones while Egbule provides increased depth at edge rusher while Joey Bosa continue to nurse ankle/foot injuries. Bosa is currently listed as questionable and may see a limited volume of snaps against Kansas City.

Gaziano is in his second year out of Northwestern after signing with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent following the 2020 draft. Egbule is in his third season after being selected in the sixth-round of the 2019 draft out of Houston.
