On Wednesday afternoon, the Chargers announced the signing of former Chiefs wide receiver Maurice Ffrench. In a corresponding move, the team placed receiver Joe Reed on the practice squad/injured list. FFrench was released by the Chiefs on Tuesday.
Ffrench reunites with wide receivers coach Chris Beatty who spent the 2019 and 2020 seasons in the same position with the University of Pittsburgh. In his final collegiate season under Beatty, Ffrench caught 96 passes for 850 yards and four touchdowns. His 96 receptions broke the previous school record of 92 which was set by Larry Fitzgerald back in 2003. He also averaged an FBS-best 8.7 catches per game which broke the previous school record of 7.6 which was set by current Bengals wide receiver Tyler Boyd in 2015.
It remains to be seen what the injury to Reed is at this time. Either way, it’s another unfortunate setback for the team’s fifth-round pick from the 2020 draft.
we’ve signed WR Maurice Ffrench to our practice squad + placed Joe Reed on practice squad/injured.
