Tomorrow is the final deadline for all 32 teams to cut their rosters down to the final 53 players they’ll take into the regular season.
Three preseason games later and numerous practices create the sample size they’ll use to hopefully craft their team into the best form of itself and one that hopefully sets the foundation for a run at the Lombardi Trophy.
With the Chargers holding back the majority of their starters from playing the preseason at all, most of the decision were already made. The choices left to make mainly revolve around rotational players at positions such as edge rusher, interior defensive line, and wide receiver.
For this morning’s discussion, I want to hear your thoughts on one player you believe could be a “surprise” cut from the Chargers tomorrow. There’s always one or two of these guys and I don’t think things will be different once things are all said and done by the end of Tuesday.
For me — and not that I agree with this should it happen — that player is running back Justin Jackson.
The whole point of this offseason was to get “the horse to the derby” which means the team needed to arrive at week one healthy. Despite seeing but a handful of snaps in the team’s opening preseason contest, Justin Jackson is already injured and it looks like every other year he’s been in the NFL.
At this point, why would the team continue to invest in Jackson when it’s obvious something just isn’t working out for him in this situation? The Chargers can’t keep claiming the importance of being healthy while continuing to employ a guy who can’t seem to avoid injuries to save his life?
Jackson is talented and I want him on this team to be in the rotation at running back but for all the things I discussed above, I could easily see the team finally cutting the cord and allowing him to start fresh somewhere else.
I’ll flip this over to you all now.
Who is a player you believe could be a surprise cut from the Chargers and why?
And now for today’s links.
