To the surprise of many, a number of Chargers players were held out of Thursday’s first joint practice with the 49ers.
Rookie left tackle Rashawn did not practice despite Brandon Staley telling the media earlier this week that he would return in time to participate. Afterwards, he noted that Slater is fine and wanted to go, but they
OT Rashawn Slater wanted to go today but the #Chargers kept him out to be safe, per Brandon Staley. S Nasir Adderley is dealing with migraines, Staley added.— Daniel Popper (@danielrpopper) August 19, 2021
Other players who were non-participants were wide receiver Joe Reed and rookie pass rusher Chris Rumph II. Both were seen with walking boots ahead of practice. Staley said Joe Reed had an ankle swell up on him and Chris Rumph has a foot injury, as well. Both will hopefully return to practice sometime next week.
Lastly, right tackle Bryan Bulaga has a little bit of a hip flexor issue but that was also considered not very serious and he’d have likely played this weekend were it a regular season game.
Luckily, things are still pretty good on the injury front. Here’s to hoping things stay that way.
