The Chargers welcome the 49ers to Costa Mesa today for three days of joint practices ahead of this Sunday’s preseason game at SoFi Stadium. The Bolts long held their joint practices alongside the Saints but with a new coaching staff (and new quarterback) comes other changes to the norm.

Shane Day, the Bolts’ first-year quarterbacks coach, was with the Niners prior to joining the Chargers and had a role in developing the team’s new offense. With that in mind, there should already be a decent amount of familiarity between these two teams.

I love joint practices because it provides competition in one-on-one and team reps with another team that doesn’t have to be within an official game setting. Guys are going to fight and battle over the next few days to earn bragging rights over the other and that always provides entertaining content for us.

If you think we’re not going to have at least one or two highlights from the likes of Keenan Allen and Derwin James getting the best of some Niners players, think again.

Please feel free to discuss today’s practice and anything else that may be on your mind in the comments below!
