According to Matt Maiocco, an NBC Sports reporter covering the Bay Area, the Chargers and 49ers are expected to host joint practices ahead of their preseason tilt scheduled for August 22.
This comes as a welcomed return to normalcy after all joint practices were canceled last year amid the pandemic. Now, two teams who may end up having some similarities on offense get to compete against some fresh faces in the week leading up to their exhibition.
The 49ers and Chargers will hold joint practices in Southern California leading up to their Aug. 22 preseason game in L.A., according to a source.

The last time the Chargers and Niners faced off in the preseason was in the 2019 finale. Cardale Jones helped lead the team to a 27-24 victory by throwing for 149 yards on 10-of-16 passing while adding a rushing touchdown, as well. Running back Derrick Gore also rushed for 64 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. That game was also notable for Nasir Adderley as he picked off his first pass as a member of the Chargers.
