The Chargers entered the 2021 NFL draft with nine picks, the most ever under Tom Telesco since he took over as the general manager of the team in 2013. There were no trades and all nine picks were used on players that both TT and Brandon Staley believed to be guys that could come in and immediately help fill a potential going forward.
After landing a pair of PERFECT picks in rounds one and two, the Chargers seemed to settle down through the final five rounds of the draft. One could argue they completely threw out the idea of value when it came to their third-round picks and then spent their day-three picks on guys they felt were just the best players left at whatever specific positions of need.
In his post-draft presser, Telesco did say they look at “players” during the draft, not positions. So according to him, they did just that.
