Chargers who could switch back to single-digits

I would cop one of these jerseys with haste!

With the NFL recently approving the move to expand jersey number qualifications for most positions, we’re about to see a whole lot of number changes over the next few seasons.

The move has prompted numerous players around the league to post pictures of themselves from their college days when they still rocked a single-digit, and some have even gone as far as to find photoshopped pictures of them with single-digits at the NFL level, as well.

For example, here’s Derwin James rocking the number three that he wore while at Florida State:

For those who want to take guesses at who will revert back to their old college numbers, here’s a list of players that wore numbers that now qualify for their position in 2021:

**number is available

  • S Derwin James - #3**
  • LB B.J. Bello - #5**
  • LB Emeke Egbule - #6**
  • WR Mike Williams - #7 (Worn by QB Chase Daniel)
  • LB Kyzir White - #8 (Worn by P Lachlan Edwards)
  • LB Kenneth Murray Jr. - #9**
  • WR Jalen Guyton - #9**
  • OLB/DE Jessie Lemonier - #11 (Worn by WR Jason Moore, must be labeled a linebacker)
  • S Alohi Gilman - #11
  • LB Drue Tranquill - #23 (Worn by CB Ryan Smith)

I think it’s fairly certain that James and Murray are top candidates to revert back to a single-digit jersey number. If the only thing stopping guys like Williams and White from going back to their college numbers are a backup quarterback and punter, I think it’s also safe to assume they’ll attempt to make a deal, as well.

What players would you like to see the most change back to a single-digit number? Did I miss any players of note? Let me know in the comments!
