Pro Football Focus just released their latest first-round mock draft and despite both Penei Sewell and Rashawn Slater getting selected in the top-10, the Bolts still managed to land their left tackle of the future in Virginia Tech’s Christian Darrisaw.
“The Chargers’ offseason mission was to overhaul the offensive line to put a capable unit in front of Justin Herbert, seemingly their quarterback of the future,” says author Sam Monson. “Free agency was an excellent start, but they head into the draft with a glaring need at left tackle, filled here by Christian Darrisaw.”
“Darrisaw may be a step below the two tackles who go before him in the first round here, but he earned the best single-season PFF grade of any of them, with a 95.6 this past season for the Hokies.”
With as much talk as there is in regards to both Slater and Sewell, it’s easy to forget just how good Darrisaw was in 2020. He’s a prototypical tackle for the NFL with excellent movement skills and plays with an intensity that makes him easy to fall in love with.
Picking Darrisaw with the 13th-overall pick may be a bit rich, especially when there’s a chance a top-flight cornerback could also still be on the board, but if Brandon Staley and his staff believe Darrisaw is the guy for them, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Chargers make the move to fill a hole that’s been left empty for far too long.
