Good morning Chargers fans!

How about that signing of Kyler Fackrell last night? Not a bad way to end the day, if you ask me.

In all honesty, I actually didn’t realize Fackrell was a free agent this year. Once I saw the move, however, I was pleasantly surprised with the addition. Of course, Chargers fans seeing the number 51 on an outside linebacker probably offers a bit of PTSD for a former Bolts linebacker but you all should take comfort in the fact that THIS defender has proven to be a contributor everywhere he’s been.

On the surface, I like the move. Fackrell adds depth at edge rusher and outside linebacker depending on the front being used. Either way, he’s technically playing on the edge in what’s expected to be the base defense for the Bolts 2021. At 6’5 and 245 pounds, he’s got the size/length combination that you want for that spot. I know how talented Melvin Ingram was and the potential we all see in Uchenna Nwosu, but both those guys being 6’2 was always a bit unnerving, especially when the run defense was consistently underwhelming.

Yeah, yeah, I know those numbers are usually irrelevant and don’t mean much in the end, but just think of it as a weird form of football fan OCD. You feel better knowing at least your team is bigger/faster/stronger than most others.

At any rate, let’s start today with some more discussion on Fackrell and whether or not you like this move by the Chargers. How would you grade it? I think I’d give this a solid B, maybe B+ based on his production during the year, but it’s a high-floor move that could see a decently high ceiling, as well.

Let me know what you think.

Now for today’s links.
