Over the weekend, overshadowed by much of the coverage surrounding Super Bowl LV, there was a bit of Chargers news almost unnoticed.
According to a report from this past Saturday by ESPN Packers reporter Rob Demovsky, former Rams assistant head coach/linebackers coach Joe Barry — who had yet to officially be named as the Chargers new linebackers coach under Brandon Staley — is now reportedly heading to Green Bay to be the team’s newest defensive coordinator. He will replace Mike Pettine after the team decided not renew his contract following the 2020 season.

Barry was the only coach to follow Staley from the Rams to the Chargers, but that doesn’t look to be the case anymore. Staley will still have some familiar faces in the building, but none will be from his most-recent stop.
As of this moment, no other coaches have been officially named to their positions just yet, leaving many to wonder why this is the case. Now that the Super Bowl has come and gone, I’d like to think the news should be coming sooner rather than later.
