On Thursday morning, Pro Football Focus announced their Midseason All-Rookie team which unsurprisingly included a the Chargers’ top two picks from this year’s NFL draft.
First, Rashawn Slater was selected as the team’s left tackle, beating out the only offensive lineman drafted higher than him in April in Penei Sewell. Slater is currently the sixth-highest graded tackle in the NFL with an overall grade of 78.7. He’s allowed just 12 pressures and a pair of sacks in 328 pass-blocking snaps this year.
Asante Samuel Jr. was also named to the list, pairing with Cleveland’s Greg Newsome as the team’s only two outside corners. Samuel has allowed 22-of-30 targets his way to be completed but he’s limited the damage to just 243 yards. He’s also tied for the team lead with two interceptions while adding a pair of pass breakups.
You know you drafted well when your top-two draft picks have both been instrumental to the success the Chargers have seen so far this season. Now, if Tom Telesco could capitalize on this draft class with another impactful one next year, then the Bolts may finally be able to sustain some consistency from year-to-year.
