The Eagles will welcome the Chargers into Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday in hopes of inching one step closer to .500 on the season. On the other hand, Los Angeles needs to get back to their winning ways ASAP.
Just when you think this matchup looks like the easiest one the team has seen so far, you notice that the Eagles are sixth in the NFL in rushing offense with 131.6 yards on the ground per game. This rushing attack becomes all the more difficult to defend when their quarterback, Jalen Hurts, is a big-time playmaker with his legs. He’s currently averaging 5.9 yards per attempt and leads the team with five touchdowns and 432 yards.
So for this week, I’m calling on Drue Tranquill as my player who needs to step up this week if the Chargers have any plans of coming away victorious in this one. To a lot of our surprise, Tranquill left the Patriots game as the team’s lowest-graded player on the entire defense with a 46.0. His run defense grade was a horrendous 33.6 (last on the team) despite having the fourth-best tackling mark (78.3).
With only two true linebackers at the second level of this defense, both will have to be firing on all cylinders down the stretch if the Bolts have any shot of finding a remedy for their paltry run defense.
Your turn. Let me know who you all believe needs to step up against the Eagles in the comments below.
