Last year, Anthony Lynn continuously put his trust in Michael Badgley despite the mounting evidence that he was not going to turn his kicking woes around anytime soon. Each week, he preached his confidence in the young man but was ultimately rewarded at the end of the year with the second-most missed kicks in the league (12). Badgley was ultimately let go prior to the 2021 season and was replaced by Tristan Vizcaino.
Unfortunately...not much has changed. Vizcaino has only missed one field goal this year but he’s also misfired on five extra points through the team’s first six games. Since 2015, the most extra points missed in a given season have been seven. At this rate, he’s on pace to shatter that mark when he should be nowhere near it by season’s end.
On Monday, Brandon Staley reaffirmed him and his staff’s confidence in Vizcaino but they’ll be keeping “all options open” at the same time. Hopefully that doesn’t mean they allow the entire season to go by without making a change, however.
On Tristan Vizcaino, Brandon Staley says multiple times that #Chargers will "keep all options open." But reiterates that he and coaching staff continues to have "confidence" in Vizcaino.

As I stated earlier, we all saw what happened when Lynn allowed Badgley to finish the 2020 season. It was understandable as we also saw past cuts like Younghoe Koo and Josh Lambo go on to find success with other teams, but of course the one time the team decides to actually keep a guy it still doesn’t go anywhere near in their favor.
So I ask you: Is Brandon Staley going to end up regretting giving Vizcaino this long of a leash or should a move be made as soon as possible? Let me know what you all think.
And now for today’s links.
