According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the Chargers are scheduled to interview Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus on Monday following the first round of the playoffs.
At the head of Indy’s defense, Eberflus helped the unit finish eighth in total defense, allowing 332.1 yards per game. Most notably, they were second in the league in rushing defense after allowing just 90.5 yards per game on the ground and holding opponent’s to 22.6 points per game, good for 10th in the NFL.
Eberflus was able to do this with not a lot of star power on his side of the ball. Former Vikings corner Xavier Rhodes saw a little bit of a resurgence while former 49ers first-rounder Deforest Buckner set a franchise record for sacks by a defensive tackle.
#Colts DC Matt Eberflus — one of the most in-demand head-coaching candidates — plans to interview with the #Jets on Sunday and the #Chargers on Monday, per source. He declined an interview with the #Texans. For now, full focus on Saturday’s playoff game at Buffalo.

Eberflus is almost guaranteed to find a head coaching job during this cycle, but I don’t think it will end up being with the Bolts who will likely lean into an offensive coach who can get the most out of stud rookie quarterback Justin Herbert. However, Tom Telesco did mention on Wednesday that he knows plenty of defensive coaches who were able to develop young quarterbacks, so time will tell with this one.
Now for today’s links.
