On Wednesday afternoon, Chargers general manager Tom Telesco met with the media for around 45 minutes in what was his first press conference since before the 2020 season began.
During the call, Telesco was asked whether or not the team currently plans on picking up the fifth-year option of safety Derwin James, who has missed 27 of the past 32 games with an ankle and MCL injury, respectively.
Telesco was quick to respond, and with a coy smile, said “that would probably be the easiest decision of the week.”
So with all the uncertainty surrounding the Chargers following the firing of Anthony Lynn after four years at the helm, one thing the entire fanbase can rest assured on is that James will be in the powder blue and white for as long as he wants to be.
In 21 games (all starts), James has compiled 139 tackles, seven tackles-for-loss, 3.5 sacks, and 14 pass breakups.
#Chargers GM Tom Telesco says "it'd probably be the easiest decision" when asked if they are picking up the 5th-year option on Derwin James.
