Chargers request permission to interview 49ers DC Robert Saleh

Saleh is the seventh coach that the Chargers have shown interest in, and the third defensive coordinator

The Chargers continue requesting permission to interview the top head-coaching candidates around the NFL and the latest to be tied to the Bolts is now 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh. He is now the seventh coach the Chargers have shown interest in thus far and the third defensive coordinator, joining the Rams’ Brandon Staley and the Colts’ Matt Eberflus.

Saleh’s rise to prominence in the NFL was fueled by him turning the 49ers defense into one of the most ferocious and intimidating units in the NFL last season. They were an immovable object that helped guide the Niners all the way to the Super Bowl.

After the Chargers employed Gus Bradley over the past four seasons — a coach known for his lack of aggressive play-calling and use of pressure — it wouldn’t be the biggest surprise to see the Chargers try and bring someone in who could light a bonfire in an otherwise underwhelming pass rush.

How would you all feel about this possible hire? Would you prefer an offensive-minded head coach or do you feel a defensive mind is needed to bring the defense up to the same level as the offense?
