Brandon Staley is slowly but surely finding the right pieces for his coaching staff and he’s reportedly made his second hire as he’s coercing Chicago Bears defensive line coach Jay Rodgers to join him with the Chargers, per the Chicago Tribune.
Rodgers began his time with the Bears underneath former head coach John Fox back in 2015. During his tenure in the Windy City, Rodgers has helped developed a number of young and impactful lineman, including tackle Roy Robertson-Harris, Bilal Nichols and Eddie Goldman.
Following the 2018 season, Rodgers was awarded the honor of the NFL’s Defensive Line Coach of the Year. During that campaign, he helped 29 year old defensive tackle Akiem Hicks record 7.5 sacks and a team-high 12 tackles-for-loss en route to his first ever Pro Bowl nomination. Hicks was joined by four other defensive lineman who finish the season with at least three sacks.
Matt Nagy is expected to have more than a D-coordinator to hire. League sources say defensive line coach Jay Rodgers is bound for the #Chargers.https://t.co/URtl9plnqU
