Chargers fans woke up to some more news regarding the team’s head coaching search as NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday morning that the Bolts are scheduled to interview Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus later today. Rapoport also confirmed that the Chargers completed their interview with Titans OC Arthur Smith on Monday afternoon.
The Colts were able to balance a solid offensive attack led by Philip Rivers with a surprising and slightly underrated defensive unit that ended up ranking eighth in the NFL in total defense by the end of the season. After trading for defensive tackle Deforest Buckner, the Colts defense became the second-best against the run, allowing just 90.5 yards on the ground per game.
Buckner was joined by linebacker Darius Leonard on the defensive side of the ball for the NFL’s All-Pro team while offensive guard Quenton Nelson made the offensive side and defensive back Greg Odum was named as the special teamer of the group.
The #Chargers are close to completing their first round of interviews, speaking with #Titans OC Arthur Smith last night and #Colts DC Matt Eberflus today, sources say.
