The Chargers signed wide receiver Darius Jennings on March 30 in hopes of giving their return game a boost after struggling in that area this past season. However, a source confirmed that Jennings is one of the first players to be cut prior to tomorrow’s 1pm deadline.
*Note: RB Derrick Gore was actually the running back to be cut, not Darius Bradwell.
The #Chargers have released WR Darius Jennings, OT Ryan Roberts, WR Dalton Schoen, and RB Darius Bradwell. OG Nate Gilliam to the practice squad, per source.

Jennings being released so soon is a bit of a surprise as he’d been receiving a good amount of playing with both the first and second team offense. With the chance of Mike Williams potentially missing the first game of the season, the Chargers could use the added depth. However, it looks like they are opting to go for some of the younger talent at the position this season.
Jennings was most recently with the Tennessee Titans in 2019 where he was primarily used as a punt returner. He originally signed with Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent following the 2015 draft.
