It’s just one week into the 2020 season and rookie running back Joshua Kelley, who entered Sunday’s game as the third-string back, is being held in high regard in both fantasy and real-life football.
In Bleacher Report’s latest piece on Week 2’s biggest sleepers for fantasy football, Kelley was included due to a combination of his latest performance against the Bengals and the excellent opportunity he has in front of him with backup Justin Jackson currently sitting out with a quad injury.
The Chargers are going to try and run the ball on Sunday, there’s no questions about that. They ran it 39 times against against Cincinnati with Ekeler getting 19 totes and Kelley receiving 12 total, including multiple carries within the 10-yard line. Lynn has been waiting for a back who can get the tough yards and I think that’s where Kelley comes in with this offense.

If the Chargers ever find themselves within a couple yards from the end zone, expect a heavy dose of Kelley. Lynn won’t stand for anymore failures in short-yardage situations. That’s why I like Kelley going forward as long as Jackson remains sidelined.
