Just in time for the 2020 season starting tonight, Bleacher Report released their top-50 players for the 2020 season and there’s just a lone Chargers player on the list.
That player is none other than defensive end Joey Bosa. He comes in at No. 33, ahead of players like the Vikings’ Danielle Hunter and Tampa Bay’s Chris Godwin while falling behind the likes of Minkah Fitzpatrick of the Steelers and Nick Chubb of the Browns.
Here’s what the NFL staff had to say about Bosa:
“The brothers Bosa are both wrecking balls off the line of scrimmage, though the older sibling, Joey, is the more consistent of the two at his point in their respective careers. Joey, who signed a record-setting five-year, $135 million contract extension this offseason, is both a relentless pass-rusher and an excellent run-defender due to a combination of excellent strength at the point of attack and impeccable technique.”
I don’t think I have much to add to that analysis above. Bosa is a complete defender and the only thing keeping him from the best of the best at the position is a breakout year in sacks. I’m talking 15+. It’s the only reason at this point why he still isn’t considered in the same breath as Chandler Jones, Khalil Mack, and heck, even T.J. Watt who had 13 and 14.5 sacks in each of the past two seasons, respectively.
There’s no better time for a career year than right now.
