Melvin Ingram signs adjusted contract, gets guaranteed money in 2020

The veteran just wanted some security in a contract year.

Just as many of us probably expected following his return to practice yesterday, Melvin Ingram has reportedly signed a newly-adjusted contract that guarantees his entire $14 million base salary in 2020. Prior to this new deal, Ingram wasn’t guaranteed anything in the final year of his contract, which is not what any player wants to do, especially at his age.

So what does this mean? As of right now, it means that Ingram is 100% in the fold for the 2020 season. However, I don’t think it bodes well for his chances of being on the roster in 2021. While there is still a chance for another contract adjustment, I have a sneaking suspicion they guaranteed him his entire base salary this year to make him feel comfortable enough to play without an extension.

But regardless, that’s not something any of us need to worry about at the moment. Ingram is back on the field and right where he belongs. It’s time to focus on the 2020 season with one less distraction in front of them.
