On Monday morning, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero broke some news stemming from the ongoing discussions between the NFL and the Players Association. This bit of news revolves around the preseason, or potential lack thereof, next month.
After the NFL was stuck on two games for some time, and the NFLPA fairly dug in on the idea of zero exhibitions, the league’s latest proposal would call for a single preseason game to be played on the original weekend of the third preseason contest.

Players still want no preseason games and a longer acclimation period. But a sign the sides are working and getting closer to a plan for 2020.

Players are also standing firmly on the idea of a 21-day acclimation period, which has become all the more important for them after an unusually-long offseason. Obviously no one wants to succumb to an injury that could have been avoided with some extra strength and conditioning work so it’s no surprise this is a key variable for the two sides to agree upon.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter also reported that the two sides are scheduled to get together later Monday morning to try and finalize the plethora of topics that still need to be settled prior to the official report date on July 28. Monday is also the first official report date for the rookies of the Chiefs and Texans so the hope is that everyone starts to mash the “fast forward” button towards a compromise.
