On Thursday afternoon, Pro Football Talk broke the news that the NFL is planning on cutting the amount of preseason games in the month of August from four to two. They soon after clarified that each team’s first and fourth preseason game will be eliminated with some team’s schedules getting shook up to make sure each club gets at least one home game next month.

For the Chargers, this means their matchup with the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers will both be canceled. Their home matchup with the Rams and Seattle Seahawks remain on the schedule but there’s not telling how those will change in the NFL’s pursuit of giving each team a home game.

This also might be the last of the four-game preseasons we’ll see in the NFL. In the latest CBA, the NFL has the power to officially shorten the schedule in anticipation of next year’s 17-game regular season.
