A host of NFL writers at ESPN are taking part in a huge experiment where they are re-drafting the entire NFL for all 32 teams. In other words, just imagine a giant fantasy football draft. The order in which teams pick is the same as 2020 draft meaning the Cincinnati Bengals are #1 and the Chiefs are down at #32. In this first edition of the series, the writers only went through four picks.
Some of the rules the writers needed to follow were that they had to draft at least one quarterback and one non-QB player on offense and defense within the first four picks. As long as they got those three types of players, their fourth pick could be anyone of their choosing.
Within the first four rounds, five Chargers players were selected with at least one going in each round and two going in the second.
The first player taken was defensive end Joey Bosa at seventh-overall in the entire draft. The only players taken ahead of him were quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson, Lamar Jackson, and Deshaun Watson followed by defensive tackle Aaron Donald and offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley.
Rookie quarterback Justin Herbert was the next Charger taken at pick #55 while being the 23rd passer off the board. He managed to get the nod over Kirk Cousins and Daniel Jones who were the next two QBs taken.
The third Bolt taken was safety Derwin James who was selected at the end of the second with the 62nd-overall pick. James was the second safety taken at that point with the Steelers’ Minkah Fitzpatrick as the only player at the position to go higher.
Wide receiver Keenan Allen was the fourth Charger taken with the 81st pick in the third round. He was the 10th wide receiver taken and fell just one pick behind rookie wideout CeeDee Lamb.
The fifth and final player taken from the Chargers was quarterback Tyrod Taylor. That may come as a surprise to some of you, but whichever writer made the pick obviously feels like Tyrod is one of the better starting quarterbacks in the league for him to be taken at the start of the fourth round.
What do you all think of the players pick within the top-128? Did anyone get snubbed?
