Late last week, it was reported by Richard Deitsch of The Athletic that Joe Tessitore and Booger McFarland would not be returning to ESPN’s Monday Night Football booth for the 2020 season.

Deitsch also noted that the replacements will come from within ESPN and that Tessitore and McFarland will remain in “prominent” roles with the company.

I’m a little surprised that ESPN is choosing to replace both when it was pretty clear that the only weak link was McFarland, whom on a weekly basis was criticized for his lack of nuance and surface-level analysis. While he has improved, it was apparent he didn’t have the “it”-factor when it comes to thriving in the booth. I’ve always loved Tessitore and his vacancy is unfortunate, but ESPN seems dead set on starting fresh with the new MNF crew.

As of now, no decisions have been made yet nor have we heard many hints at who it could potentially be.
