Kenneth Murray receives 3rd-best odds to take home Defensive Rookie of the Year

The Chargers’ newest linebacker Kenneth Murray has received the third-best odds to win the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year Award at +1000, per BetMGM. Murray falls just behind Arizona’s Isaiah Simmons (+600) and Washington’s Chase Young, who leads the pack at +250.

Murray was selected with the 23rd-overall pick after the Chargers mortgaged both their day two picks to go up and get him. A team doesn’t make a move like that without plans to get him in the fold early and often.

Anthony recently noted that Murray could play the WILL spot, which I think is the best place for him in this defense, at least until he can use his hands better when handling blockers. Let him be the wild child that he is.

The best case-scenario for Murray is he gets to benefit from the wealth of talent around him. He’s his best when kept clean and hopefully offensive lines will be preoccupied more often than not with the likes of Linval Joseph and the team’s pass-rush. His best trait might be hunting quarterbacks from a spy position. The Bolts have struggled with mobile quarterbacks in the past and Murray might finally be the answer to those worries.

At any rate, what do you think of Murray’s opening odds to win the award? Are they too high or too low?
