The Chargers finally got their depth at wide receiver by selecting former WR/KR Joe Reed out of the University of Virginia. Reed is a 6’0, 215-pound offensive weapon who was used in a variety of ways while with the Cavaliers.
He’s built similarly to the 49ers’ Deebo Samuel and the Titans’ AJ Brown but will not be near the same caliber as a receiver. Reed fits in as a deep threat and as another versatile piece who can be moved around the offense in a variety of alignments. He’s physical at the catch-point and according to Pro Football Focus, he never dropped a pass that was 20+ yards down field.
Reed also fits the mold of elite athletes with matching upside who Telesco and Lynn love to use their later round picks on. He jumped 38 inches at the combine with a 4.47 forty-yard dash. He’s a phenomenal pick this late when you consider all the ways he can be used on this team, whether it’s offensively or in the return game.
Final Grade: B+
Lots of love for the new receiver

With the No. 151 overall pick, the Chargers take Virginia wideout Joe Reed.

Reed has the build of a running back (6-foot, 224 pounds) but good straight-line speed (4.47 seconds in the 40). The Chargers offense lacked a burner heading into the draft. Reed might fill that role.
I will be a fan of whichever team drafts Joe Reed on Day 3.

Joe Reed

Great slot guy, quick, good hands, can run some routes
He ran a 4.47....
Collin Johnson and Joe Reed are slow as molasses.

KJ Hill is a pristine route runner
John Hightower has the speed we need.
Quartney Davis is also solid
JOE REED is a beast and a great slot receiver. I was hoping we would either get him or Quez. Our offense is going to be MEAN

Joe Reed is pretty damn good with the ball in his hand. I'm watching tape on him rn, he's the best player on that entire offense. Loving his tape so far.

#Chargers needed a WR3 and a returner on special teams. Virginia wide receiver Joe Reed can do both.
