Chargers 2nd round options at quarterback

If LA doesn’t pick a QB in the first round, who would be their best options after that?

Most people making NFL mock drafts or discussing what they think will happen have taken the easy route with the LA Chargers, opting to connect them to quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa or Justin Herbert with the sixth overall pick. Despite my concerns with Tua and my hope for the Chargers that they select almost anyone on the board besides a quarterback, I can see why people do connect them to Tua and Herbert. It makes plenty of sense.

But what if Tom Telesco agrees with me and goes in another direction at six? Much like with LaDainian Tomlinson in round one and Drew Brees in round two two decades ago, perhaps the Chargers could wait for their quarterback until they’re next on the board.

Joe Burrow, Tagovailoa, and Herbert are all expected to go in the first round. No one can really say at this point if three QBs go on day one or six QBs do — either seems possible — but we can assume which early second round candidates there will be for this exercise.

That being: Which QB would you most want the Chargers to take if they waited until pick 37, or even did the really un-Telesco like move of trading back into round one?

Jordan Love, Utah State

Height: 6-4. Weight: 224. Arm: 33.13. Hand: 10.63

Jacob Eason, Washington

Height: 6-6. Weight: 227. Hand: 9.5

Jalen Hurts, Oklahoma

Height: 6-1. Weight: 222. Arm: 31.88. Hand: 9.5

Jake Fromm, Georgia

Height: 6-2. Weight: 219. Hand: 8.88

After these guys, James Morgan of Florida International, Anthony Gordon of Washington State, and Steven Montez out of Colorado could be options. But unless LA takes a QB in the first or second round, it is unlikely that the QB is being drafted to start within the next year.
