Seemingly out of the blue, ESPN’s Josina Anderson recently reported that the Chargers are apparently in talks with the Carolina Panthers about a trade that would send left tackle Russell Okung out east.
#Chargers and the #Panthers are discussing a potential trade of LT Russell Okung, per source.

Anderson was also the first person to report that the relationship between the team and Okung has been choppy as of late and that there’s a growing tension between the two sides and Okung not believing there’s a true plan for the future in LA. After all, the 33-year old tackle just watched the team allow their most successful quarterback in team history to walk and there’s still the murkiness around his health following the pulmonary embolism he suffered last year.
I’m not sure what the Chargers would be able to get in return for Okung but it would surely wouldn’t paint a clearer picture of what the team plans to do in this year’s draft. Were they to trade Okung, does that mean there’s more of a priority to potentially draft a new left tackle at #6? Does this mean they believe in second-year tackle Trey Pipkins? I really don’t know at this point. Before now, I whole-heartedly believe they wouldn’t allow Okung to go anywhere if they planned on bringing in a rookie quarterback. But now? You’re guess is as good as mine.
