As I am typing this, the legal tampering window is about to start and there’s already been an incredible amount of movement across the NFL landscape, including a big-time trade. About a dozen franchise tags have been used, as well, with more likely to come.
To get you caught up quick, here are the most notable moves made within the last few days:
- DE Calais Campbell was traded to the Baltimore Ravens for a 5th-round pick and signed a 2-year/$27 million deal
- QB Ryan Tannehill signed a 4-year/$118 million deal to stay with the Tennessee Titans
- S Devin McCourty signed a 2-year/$23 million deal to stay with the New England Patriots
- LB Christian Kirksey signed a 2-year/$16 million deal with the Green Bay Packers
- CB Bradley Roby signed a 3-year/$36 million deal to stay with the Houston Texans
- Franchise Tags have been used on: QB Dak Prescott (DAL), S Anthony Harris (MIN), RB Derrick Henry (TEN), DT Chris Jones (KC), OLB Shaq Barrett (TB), WR AJ Green (CIN), and OG Joe Thuney (NE).
- QB Kirk Cousins signed a 2-year extension worth $66 million with the Minnesota VIkings
- The Atlanta Falcons released CB Desmond Trufant and RB Devonta Freeman
- The Indianapolis Colts released DT Margus Hunt
- The Browns put a 2nd-round tender on RB Kareem Hunt
While there have been more moves than I listed, this will get you up to speed on the bigger headlines up to this point.
With legal tampering now open, that also means Tom Brady will start hearing from the Chargers, Buccaneers, and Patriots immediately and the Colts, among other teams, will now be able to reach out to Philip Rivers. I don’t think either quarterback gets a deal done in the immediate future but it’s interesting nonetheless to know that it could technically happen at any point now.
We will continue to update this thread with other general NFL news as it gets broken.
