2020 NFL Draft Fan Vote: Pick 133

NCAA Football: Senior Bowl Practice Vasha Hunt-USA TODAY Sports

Oh yeah, baby. The fifth round of the NFL draft. The place where the best general manager’s start to show off their big brain energy.

At this point, the draft is well into the second half and teams are hoping to hit on some gems. The fifth-round, like the rest of the middle rounds, has produced some really notable names over the years. Since 2000, here are some of the top names to come out of the fifth:

  • DT Kyle Williams
  • WR Tyreek Hill
  • TE George Kittle
  • DE/OLB Robert Mathis
  • SS Kam Chancellor
  • CB Richard Sherman
  • S Reshad Jones

The Chargers, depending who you ask, have done a decent job of finding eventual starters while hitting big on at least one player since Tom Telesco took over in 2013. Here are all those fifth-rounders:

2019: QB Easton Stick
2018: C Scott Quessenberry
2017: DB Desmond King
2016: OLB Jatavis Brown
2015: OLB Kyle Emanuel
2014: DT Ryan Carrethers
2013: CB Steve Williams

Stick was exciting to watch in the preseason but he’s likely a career back-up with this team. Quessenberry may end up being the team’s center of the future after Pouncey retires. King was a First-Team All-Pro in his second season, obviously he’s the big hit here in this round, and linebackers Brown and Emanuel both found some starting snaps early on in their careers.

Ryan Carrethers started just three games with the Chargers are never was able to record a sack as a professional. Finally you have Steve Williams. He was with the Chargers for two and a half years with his best season coming in 2015 when he picked off the only two passes of his career. He also hasn’t been with an NFL team in some time but I believe he’s making do in the XFL at the moment.

If the Chargers are to find their way back to relevancy, they’ll need to find their own gems in this draft. Anything positive that can happen between now and the opening of SoFi will be extremely welcomed.

But this draft is up to you. We’re at pick 133 and there’s still some good players on the board. Who are you choosing?

(Note: Utah DT Leki Fotu won the fan vote for pick 102.)

Who do you want the Chargers to select with the 133rd-overall pick?
