Day after open thread: Big yikes

Come scream about it.

Woof.

There’s seriously not much else to say at this point.

Yesterday was painful. It was embarrassing. And likely worst of all, it wasn’t all that surprising.

Ahead of yesterday’s game, the entire fan base expected Anthony Lynn to be out-coached by Bill Belichick, but even then, no one could have foreseen what actually went down against the Patriots.

The Chargers have long been the ones to allow notably-unknown players to find success against them. On Sunday, a former undrafted free agent wideout named Gunner Olszewski returned a punt for a touchdown and caught a long touchdown pass from Patriots backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham.

Olszewski played his collegiate ball at Bemidji State, a Division II school in the state Minnesota. But here’s the kicker: Olszewski played CORNERBACK in college. He was actually the conferences Defensive Player of the Year as a senior in 2018, so we can acknowledge he’s talented to a point, but this is not your run-of-the-mill NFL player.

I won’t get into the rest of the gaffes, but this is one of the main things on my mind this morning.
