In what was setting up to be an entertaining regular season finale for Chargers fans is now a bit more lackluster following the announcement that Patrick Mahomes will be rested this week prior to the Chiefs’ first-round bye. In his place, Kansas City will start veteran Chad Henne against the Bolts on Sunday.
The 35-year old Henne has only attempted 11 passes in the past five years in which he’s spent time with both Jacksonville and Kansas City. He was also out of the league for all of the 2019 season. Over his 13-year career, Henne has a 18-35 record as a starter while throwing for over 12,990 yards and 58 touchdowns to 63 interceptions.
The last time a quarterback not named Patrick Mahomes started a game for the Chiefs was Week 9 of 2019 against the Vikings. In that game, 35-year old Matt Moore threw for 275 yards and a single touchdown in a 26-23 win for Kansas City.
