Chargers Daily Links: Bolts could make a run for Panthers’ Taylor Moton this offseason

Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon recently posted an article highlighting “the best player each team could add” in 2021. The players ranged from top pending free agents to the best players in this year’s upcoming draft. For the Chargers, Gagnon believes the Bolts should target one of the best young offensive tackles in the NFL.

That player is current Panthers offensive tackle Taylor Moton.

“Strong tackles rarely reach free agency, but the Panthers are low on cap space and could opt to save money by rolling with Greg Little as their starter in 2021,” says Gagnon. “The Los Angeles Chargers, who are projected to enter the offseason with nearly $30 million in cap space, could outbid the cap-strapped Panthers for Moton’s services.”

“Young Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert needs more support from his line next year. Veteran right tackle Bryan Bulaga is solid but will turn 32 in the offseason, and Sam Tevi is a subpar starter on the left side.”

Moton was actually one of my favorite prospects for the Chargers when he was coming out of Western Michigan back in 2017. He has started 47 of the last 48 games for Carolina, which is a massive plus for any player the Bolts could add this offseason. The team’s two offseason acquisitions in Bryan Bulaga and Trai Turner have combined to only play 18 games this season out of a possible 30. Like Gagnon stated above, the former is getting up there in age and the latter hasn’t been what the team hoped he’d be this season, injury or not. I think it’s time the Chargers start gunning for young and established players on the offensive line rather than risking their money on seasoned veterans and draft picks since neither have tended to work out during Tom Telesco’s tenure.

And now for today’s links.
