In this week’s edition of CBS Sports’ quarterback power rankings by Cody Benjamin, Justin Herbert has moved up one spot to No. 11, inching just a bit closer to the top 10.
Against the lowly Jets, Herbert threw for a career-high 366 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions. It was one of his cleanest games of the year and a positive site to see him rightfully take advantage of the worst defense he’s faced to this point in his young career.
“If you’d have looked at his numbers before the season, you’d have reasonably assumed they belonged to someone like Aaron Rodgers or Deshaun Watson. That’s how promising he’s been. Just wait until the Chargers improve their supporting staff.”
At this rate, Herbert is on pace to crush almost all of the rookie passing records, including single-season touchdown passes (Baker Mayfield, 27) and potentially the single-season passing mark (Andrew Luck, 4,374).
For him to claim both marks would be astounding. Just absolutely incredible. If he can survive a tough outing against the Bills this week, the rest of the schedule bodes well for his chances.
