On Tuesday, ESPN’s Field Yates tweeted out a list of free agents and the teams they recently worked out for, which included the Chargers and veteran tight end Lance Kendricks.
Notable recent workouts:
— Field Yates (@FieldYates) September 17, 2019
Cardinals: RB Alfred Morris, Zach Zener, Luke Willson
Bears: Shane Ray, Noah Spence
Texans: Marquette King
Chargers: Lance Kendricks
Colts: Kickers Elliott Fry, Cody Parkey, Younghoe Koo, Greg Joseph, Cole Hedlund and Chase McLaughlin
Kendricks was most recently with the New England Patriots, where he was suspended for the first game of the season due to violating the league’s substance abuse policy. He would later be released once he was reinstated.
Prior to New England, Kendricks spent the 2017 and ‘18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers where he totaled 37 catches for 373 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Kendricks was selected by the St. Louis Rams in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He was with the Rams through the 2016 season, enjoying a middle-of-the-road career where his career-highs never exceeded 50 catches for 519 receiving yards.
The Chargers aren’t in dire need of a third tight end while Hunter Henry gets right from a lower-body injury but a seasoned vet who could help keep the chains moving isn’t the worst thing to have as a depth piece.
