The final game of week 2 in the 2019-20 NFL season is here. Monday Night Football will feature the Cleveland Browns led by second-year quarterback Baker Mayfield and the New York Jets led by... veteran journeyman Trevor Siemian, I guess. Both teams are looking for their first victory of the year after disappointing week 1 losses. The Jets lost to their division rivals, the Buffalo Bills, and the Browns got their butts handed to them by the Tennessee Titans in a game that earned them the title of biggest disappointment of week 1 of the NFL season.
The big story of tonight’s game is that it will be the first of several games in which the Jets are without their much-hyped signal caller, Sam Darnold. That, for those who somehow missed the story, is due to his having contracted mononucleosis, a condition that will keep him out until October. Whether or not they can muster an offense without him will tell us quite a bit about what to expect from them moving forward.
On the Cleveland side of things, they desperately need to right their ship after last week’s trouncing, and they couldn’t have asked for a much better opponent against which to do just that.
