After suffering a knee injury during their week 1 game against the Indianapolis Colts, Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams spent the week on the injury report and appeared unlikely to play week 2 against the Detroit Lions. However, NFL Network’s Adam Schefter has reported this morning that Williams is expected to play, though he will likely be limited to red zone opportunities:
Chargers’ WR Mike Williams, listed as questionable for Sunday due to a knee injury, showed improvement later in the week in practice and is likely to be used Sunday in red-zone situations, per source.

This is great news for the Chargers after they lost one of their other primary red zone targets for an extended period of time when tight end Hunter Henry suffered a tibia plateau fracture. This still shapes up as a difficult game for the shorthanded Chargers, but it helps that they will now be less shorthanded with the partial return of their third-year wideout. It will be interesting to see if the team still activates recently promoted receiver Andre Patton to utilize between the 20s and if Williams if not able to last the entire game.
